The Significance
of 'Cha Tao'
Literally translated, 'Cha' in Chinese means Tea, and Tao means
'the Way.' Together Cha Tao signifies: the nature or essence of
Tea. The universe is filled with the living and non-living, both
the seen and unseen, nourishing each other, complementing each
other even in their diversity. The sky with its cosmic energy
and the earth with its green energy continue to produce nourishment
for all life in this world. We as human beings have the privilege
and the opportunity to acknowledge and embrace these gifts through
as many natural sources as possible. Tea is one of the most enjoyable
and ancient sources of nature's essence.
Tea has a myriad of simple yet profound benefits. Many cultures hold tea in the highest esteem, as a symbol of aesthetic refinement. Tea was and still is an object of connoisseurship in China, as fine wine is in France. Brewing tea, serving it, and tasting it became an art form, most notably in Japan, in traditional tea-ceremonies. However, Tea in its simplest form is a beverage for the common man, for everyone; at once a satisfying feast for the senses and a source of nourishment that comes directly from the earth; pure in its organic simplicity.
Cha Tao aims to promote a greater appreciation for and an understanding of how Tea, with its many health benefits, can play a significant part in cultivating one's holistic well-being; returning one to the essence of nature.
